I have such wonderful memories of this park. I remember when it was 2 cemeteries. They were abandoned and creepy. There was legislation that allowed the city to turn the cemeteries into a Memorial Park. I remember well the tedious process of locating relatives of the people buried there. The bodies of those who had relatives that were located were exhumed and moved to a cemetery of their family's choosing. There were a handful for whom no family could be found. They were left buried. All the headstones were removed and stored at Pio Pico for awhile. It saddens me to read all the idiotic comments from people who weren't around when this happened and are just repeating garbage someone else told them.
I used to go to the park every Sunday with my boyfriend and my dog for a picnic. It was quiet, peaceful and lovely to just stroll the path and reflect. I don't know when they stopped allowing dogs as someone said, but I suppose it was due to people not picking up after their pets.
It is quite sad that the cemeteries fell into such a state of disrepair, there was so much history, some of Whittier's first residents were probably buried there. To call it Dead Man's Park is disrespectful to those who were laid to rest there. But it's so typical of some people.
Stroll through the park, enjoy the quiet, read the names on the granite plaque and reflect on the souls of the people who were once buried there.

Visited the park for its historical designation (CHL #646). The park itself is wide open, very clean and easily accessible. Little traffic means that the kids are safe playing. Very little shade -keep that in mind for the hot summer days.

It's crazy how you can take a cemeteryWith people's loved ones in it and just because you can't make money off it make a park my great grandfather his wife daughter one child are there my family where ppl of faith so evil I don't think sick of the ppl qho did this with out moving my loved ones with out notice smh hate Southern California only there could this go down

Great quiet park in the area It's walking distance from any local school, no playground though... My boy loves bringing his bike and toys here.
