All the people were fabulous, it was very interesting. It did feel like we had to drag it out a bit so the tour ahead of us was finished. Definitely could have easily been 15 minutes less in the mine. The best part of course is the gold panning.

I went as an excursion with Holland America and it was great! The reviews were kinda across the board but I'm so glad I went. I learned so much about Hard Rock Mining and being from the East Coast it was so interesting. We learned about the process and the building (which no longer stands) Mr. Gary demonstrated some of the machines and talked about his life as a Hard Rock Miner. He was very honest and his stories were great.
The gold panning was fun(and the water was warm) and even though I didn't get much gold it was cool. Learning about the Stamp Mills and the Old Mill Houses that have been move was fascinating. And there is a cute little faux town store front too, the tax collector is especially funny!

This was so great and I am so happy I went!

I came here as part of a Carnival Excursion with my family. The tour into the mine was lead by an informative guide who worked in the mine for 30+ years, he operated the equipment and showed us how the mining process worked. The outdoor museum is run by very friendly people who showed us the history of the mill and the areas still being excavated. We panned and found gold before shopping at the well kept general store that had free coffee and hot cocoa. The owners are very passionate and love waving bye to the tours. Will come back next time im in Alaska

The old fella that gave us the mine tour was perfect for the job. You could tell he loved talking about the mines. We did find some gold while panning. Lots of old equipment to see. I wish I had more time to check it out.

The gentleman who gave a tour is NOT friendly or polite. He doesn't wear earplugs, so he can't hear and yells at the guests. I don't recommend going and doing a tour. Especially, when you pan for gold in a box and not a stream. Reminded me of a kiddy panning for fools gold. I don't recommend AJ Mine

Great mine tour with demonstrations of machinery and drills by an actual miner! All the staff/guides were super friendly, nice and full of information about this huge old abandoned mine. Plus you get to try your hand at panning for gold in the WARMED water, fantastic fun! The little store there is perfect also! Recommend for anyone that likes mines or gold!

This was one of the best tours we did on our journey to Alaska. Gary’s portion of the tour was fantastic, 37+ years in mining…he is a real treasure. It was as authentic of a mining tour as we’d ever been on. I highly, highly recommend wearing bug spray as the flies are ruthless. Lot of history on the property which was very fascinating. Definitely a worth while tour if you’re traveling to Juneau.
