I recently visited a picnic shelter at Cynthia Peterson Park that I was considering reserving for an upcoming event. When I initially checked it out, it seemed like a decent spot, but after officially reserving it and taking a closer look, I was shocked at how much worse it appeared. The shelter was covered in stains and graffiti, making it look neglected and far from ideal.

I understand that it’s an outdoor space, but the level of cleanliness was unacceptable. I expressed my concerns to the park district manager and requested that the shelter be cleaned before my event. Unfortunately, I was basically told, “it is what it is,” with no indication that any effort would be made to improve the situation. This lack of concern for maintaining the park’s facilities was disappointing, especially after I had already committed to the reservation.

If you’re considering this location for your event, I would strongly recommend picking somewhere else. The shelter’s current state is a major drawback, and the lack of responsiveness from the management only adds to the frustration. I hope the park district takes this feedback seriously and works on better upkeep of their facilities.

The people are great, the facility is nice, I hate wanting to work out and then finding out I can’t because they have the shortest hours of any health club in a five mile area. The other thorn is that the whirl pool seems to regularly be down.

Nice place but extremely packed.. Took 25 minutes to get a tube for the lazy river. Would give 5 stars if they were open longer and had more tubes or at least limited the amount of people allowed in the park
