We have been customers at this location for 10 years, since before it changed ownership. We had never had a bad experience until an awful one today.

As we sat on the tarmac in Orlando with our young children at 2:30pm on Christmas Eve we received a text from dogtopia - any dogs not picked up by 5pm would be boarded until 12/26. Dogtopia always allows after hours pickups, and gave no notice before this text that they would be eliminating that option on Christmas Eve. We were due to land at DCA at 4:20 and would not make it by 5.

We were forced to call our emergency contact from the tarmac - thank goodness they were in town - and they picked up our dog for us before 5pm. The fact that dogtopia thought it was ok to give this short notice and then lock our dog in boarding over Christmas was shocking to us. As I am sure is true with anyone boarding here - dogs are family. To think this policy was ok to spring on people shows that dogtopia maybe doesn’t get it.

We’ve been bringing our dog here for the past 8 months or so and couldn’t be happier with this place! We have a 2-day/week subscription now, which has ultimately saved us money from our old doggy daycare facility and works really well with our schedules. Of the 3 daycare brands we’ve visited in DC, this is hands down the one we have liked the most. They seem to have the most consistent staff (rather than the constant turnover we saw at the other places), which hopefully means they treat their employees well here. And the staff seem to genuinely care about the dogs. I’ve watched our dog playing on the daytime camera and have melted at some of the sweet interactions I see the “canine coaches” having with the dogs. They also have a fun Instagram presence, doing things like a “Dog of the Week” and hilarious seasonally themed photo shoots like Dogchella (see photo), Back to School, etc. We were skeptical about the weekly subscription model, but after we crunched the numbers and looked at how frequently we were taking our dog to daycare, we realized it was actually going to be about the same or even less money depending on the week. And if we need to add days or add on boarding in any given week, it’s more affordable for us overall than at other facilities. They also are the only doggy daycare place we’ve found in DC that doesn’t have fencing inside the room that our escape artist husky mix can easily jump. All of their play rooms are simply surrounded by the 4 walls of the room, which is such a better situation for our dog. We’re very happy being loyal Dogtopia of Navy Yard customers, and we plan to come here for a long time. We’re so grateful for the nice atmosphere they’ve created and the great care they give our high energy dog!

We are sincerely grateful to the friendly and lovable staff at Dogtopia of Navy Yard and Downtown DC for the love, fun times, great boarding, awesome spa services, outstanding care and kindness shown to Babe since 2017. Each time we arrived, the Dogtopia Staff greeted her with such excitement and joy that made us feel immediately welcomed and special. We are certain that Babe truly appreciated everything you did to contribute to the wonderful and long life she lived.

On July 4, 2023, we bid farewell to Babe, our adorable and loving Havanese dog. She lived a long and happy life just shy of 20 years. Losing a beloved pet is one of the most heartbreaking experiences a family can go through. Amidst the difficult times, we found solace and support in the many memories of Babe’s times spent at Dogtopia. Even when she got into pink paint at home, you provided superior grooming service that left her cute little face with no traces of paint.

Dogtopia has been an exceptional choice for my dog, Sophie. Their range of services, including daycare, boarding, and spa treatments, has catered perfectly to her needs. One of the standout features is their daycare service, which offers a safe and supervised environment where Sophie can play and interact with other dogs of similar size and temperament. This careful grouping ensures that she has a positive and enriching experience every day.

Sophie loves the playrooms, which are designed with her safety in mind. The staff at Dogtopia are highly trained in canine behavior, first aid, and CPR, providing constant supervision and ensuring her well-being at all times. This level of care gives me peace of mind knowing she is in good hands.

When it comes to cleanliness, Dogtopia excels. The facilities are always hygienic, and the playrooms have appropriate flooring to protect Sophie’s joints, making it a safe place for her to run and play. The boarding service has been a great option for when I travel, providing comfortable sleeping arrangements and allowing Sophie to participate in daycare activities during the day, keeping her active and happy.

The spa services are another highlight, with grooming, bathing, nail trimming, and ear cleaning available. Sophie always comes home looking and feeling her best after a spa day at Dogtopia.

Overall, Dogtopia's commitment to safety, cleanliness, and tailored care has made it a fantastic choice for Sophie, and I highly recommend their services to other dog owners.

UPDATE: the quality of this place has declined.

I left my dogs there for daycare and grooming Friday (2/7). When I picked them up everything seemed fine. The next day I noticed that my dog’s paw pads were basically burned off. My dog’s paws are naturally black and have been that way since he was a puppy. Now there are quarter sized flaps of black paw skin peeling off exposing almost raw flesh! I have never seen anything like this but the grooming seems like the likely culprit. I didn’t ask for any special paw treatment and I asked for hypoallergenic shampoo. I spoke to someone there who said it could be my dog’s sensitivity to the shampoo. SHOULD THE REGULAR SHAMPOO STILL BE SO ACIDIC THAT IT BURNS OFF PAW PADS? Now my dog can barely walk.

Staff is excellent and doggy events are super fun! I don’t have to worry about the care of my dog when with them for doggy daycare! My dog has been with the manager here for 7+ years!! We love this place!

I’ve been a patron for more than a year. Dogtopia is wonderful. It is The BEST doggy daycare and boarding facility in the DMV. My mini schnauzer has a huge personality and they never get tired of him. They are highly trained in canine behavior and I can see via web that my Huey responds very well to the staff and he absolutely loves being there. Most importantly, the staff LOVE animals and it shows in how Huey is treated and his behavior. Not only is he well cared for, but always tuckered out when he comes home.

We love Dogtopia Navy Yard! The staff are so friendly and attentive - you can tell they really care about the pups. I really appreciate the structured breaks, ensuring that the dogs aren't getting overwhelmed throughout the day. I also love watching the cameras while our dog is at daycare because he has such a fun time, and I feel confident he's safe while in their care. On the one occasion he played a little too rough with another dog and got a small scratch, the staff immediately informed us and gave us clear steps on what they did to mitigate the situation. We also use spa services, and they always do a great job.
