The definition of a "hidden gem." Situated between a thrift shop and a "Coming Soon" business(the old mediacom building)it can be a little hard to find. But, if you can find them, you are in for a treat. From the moment you enter, you are greeted by an old coin-op machine(Tempest)and some select niche comicbooks. The back of the store hides a great selection of toys and collectibles. And most surprising to me, was the separate room where you can preview/sample the older games. The owners were extremely inviting and helpful. Found some awesome xmas gifts and personal purchases. If you are looking for some niche items(vintage videogames, Lego, select action figures and other collectibles) this is a fantastic destination in Charles City.

As a lover of Lego, this place has so much potential. However the store is confusing. Prices aren't listed on many products. The store is in disarray and chaotic with work areas mixed in with shopping areas. Out of order sign was on bathroom but his kids were using it. A "private" siign would be more professional or no sign at all. Also having the owners personal collection mixed in was confusing. I would suggest labeling it as not for sale and keeping it together in a dedicated area or taking it home to display. Also owner made us feel like he didn't want to sell things and even mentioned we were "cherry picking" the good stuff. That comes off strange . Most store owners want to make sales not just show off items. We finally purchased several and we went over receipt in car because at first he gave us the wrong total. Also, many items were unpriced and he had to look them up on Bricklink and Amazon for pricing. That's when we discovered the itemized receipt was odd. When the itemized receipt prints it shows original price then what he decided to charge me that day which was significantly higher. Seems very unprofessional and confusing to show that info on the buyers receipt.
We visit many independent Lego stores and Bricks and Minifigures all over the county and this was the first time I have ever seen a receipt broke down this way.
Finally, the owner mentioned that his mission was to provide the community with a Lego resource and although I find that admirable, this store falls short on being a pillar of the community .

This small family shop has a huge selection of high quality toys and games. From toddlers to teens to adults, there is something here for everyone! Another review calls this a 'hidden gem' and I absolutely agree. The owners, John and Jennifer, are kind and helpful, and they've got great suggestions if you're not sure exactly what you're looking for. Check out JJs for your next toy or game purchase instead of going straight to Amazon, you won't be disappointed!
