My husband and I love japenese food and have always wanted to learn how to make sushi. Yoko was so kind, patient, and knowledgeable and taught us unique yet classic sushi recipes. This feels like you are hanging out in someone’s kitchen and I highly recommend!

My wife and I had the best time taking the Sushi Making Class. It was informative, hands on, and delicious! We learned how to cut sushi/sashimi, make tamago, cook shrimp, and then make 4 different styles of sushi rolls. Highly recommend for any inquisitive and adventurous person! Our class had 6 people sign up for it and then 2 didn’t show up. So it was very intimate. The classes fill up very fast so book as far in advance as possible.

SO amazing! I bought the fish market tour and cooking class as a gift for my husband and it did not disappoint. The tour itself was really interesting - I can't believe the variety of fish they import from Japan and Korea - and Yoko did an incredible job explaining how she works her magic in the kitchen. Highly, highly recommend!

We did a fish market tour and Japanese cooking class and we loved it. I cleaned a fish for the first time in my life! Yoko is extremely knowledgeable about Japanese cuisine, and my goodness she has amazing knife skills. She and her staff were friendly, helpful, and patient, and they made it a fun time and a great learning experience.

This is the best cooking class for homestyle Japanese cooking. We started out with an intimate tour of two Japanese markets in Little Tokyo to learn about the key vegetable ingredients and shoyu sauces. My highlights were learning how to make an amazing vegetable garnish on tofu and dried daikon radish salad. The beef sukiyaki, okonomiyaki, dumplings, and chicken onion dish were out-of-this-world. Thank you Yoko and Carol for the amazing experience for my family.

I purchased this class for 3 family members as a Christmas gift. After an initial call, explaining that 2 of the 3 has celiac disease, I was told this class would be good, but to have them bring their own gluten free soy sauce. I followed up this call with an email, also being very clear they had celiac disease and needed all food to be gluten free. This would have been the time to let me know that they couldn't provide a safe environment for the celiacs in the group. Instead, I received an email from Yoko thanking me for letting her know and agreeing they should bring their own gluten free soy sauce. The class instruction was fine, but obviously she did not understand the dietary restrictions. She proceeded to use gluten containing ingredients and cross contaminating most everything, making the food inedible for the two celiacs. They were told to just enjoy the experience of making it. I am very unhappy that a somewhat expensive experience gift turned out to be such a major disappointment. Obviously we will not be returning to Foodstory and do NOT recommend it for anyone with food allergies or celiac disease.

Highly recommended! I took an excellent class on "How to Cook Ramen" with Yoko and Mark. The class was very informative, very hands-on and at the end, very delicious and gratifying to eat the fruits of our labor. Yoko was very warm, gracious and knowledgeable about ramen. We made everything: chashu, broth, tare, noodles (a lot of work but interesting to do!) and garnishes. I will definitely take her other classes (sushi, fish market visit, yakitori) and a dream would be to take her guided tour to the japanese countryside.
