Had a great time walking the trail. We went to high shoals and the views were great. Plenty of things to see along the way. Just take your time and look. They had just had a burn within a couple of days so a lot of the brush was burnt and thined out. It will fill back in nicely I'm sure. Definitely watch for snakes and be careful.

Loved this trail! We ended up hiking 3.65 miles here, and it was worth it! There are so many beautiful locations to see the river and a very cool spot in the river where it created a mini-waterfall with rushing rapid waters. The water is beautiful and so peaceful sounding. On the trail, there were plenty of signs showing where to go and some informative signs along the way describing the area and the history behind it. The walk was pretty easy with it being mostly flat. Make sure to wear good shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, and bring water. They have beautiful areas to have a picnic. The dirt road to get there is very nice. There are no bumps and very flat compared to other dirt roads in Florida. We didn't see any alligators, but we did see birds, Lizards, and a turtle.

Beautiful hike and pretty unique state park with the shoals/rapids option for Florida. Google doesn’t provide great instructions to find the entrance and we ended up parking in little shoals entry, as we found later, it has multiple entrances to multiple trails. We were able to ride the car and then hike but it lacked early notifications of construction or road closure signs to save time. As other FL state parks canoe or kayak rentals would have been convenient to add to the experience, it will be nice if they added this. As in the picture the maps of the trail are faded and need updating. Despite the observations it was a beautiful hike and sightseeing on a beautiful weather day.

A must see if your in White Springs or in the area. Nicely paved Woodpecker trail. A good mile hike to the Shoals and then hike back.

Absolutely incredible! What a hidden gem!
I grew up in Jax but I hadn't heard about this park until recently. Took a day trip out recently to explore and it definitely exceeded expectations

Who would have thought there'd be any kind of rapids in Florida....so cool!

Great trails and gorgeous surrounding! We took the big shoals trail which runs along the river and saw a giant river otter then took rd 18 which we then saw an armadillo and plenty of birds, then took rd 2 back up to the parking area. Awesome hike of about 3.5 miles. Wouldn't consider the hike strenuous at all.

The shoals are a treat with its variety of water levels. The singletrack mountain bike trail is flowy and fun! The Woodpecker Trail is a paved bike path, 3.4 miles one way from the Little Shoals entrance to the Big Shoals entrance. Currently Big Shoals is at it's most challenging (59'), nothing that I want to take a kayak through, but I'd enjoy watching a pro do it. You can almost walk across the river at Little Shoals. When the river is high, like over 70', the Shoals are invisible.
