5 STARS, BUT BE CAREFUL! This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited but do not do this the way I did. You can’t just click on directions and drive to this trail. The road is in very bad repair and you need an SUV or truck to get up. I did this drive in a sedan and white knuckled it the whole time at 2mph. The way google tells you to go, there is no parking. I just happened to find a cleared spot on the side of the road. Please plan ahead and make sure you can make it to the lake before you try to visit!

That being said, this is the most pristine, gorgeous place I’ve ever visited. Huge evergreens, large boulders, ferns, a lake in the mountains, endless birds, sunshine and huge meadows. This is a paradise and well worth visiting if you plan well. Some other commenters recommended a better way to reach this destination, lodgepoll something or other. Follow this advice!

Bluff Lake is beautiful and well worth the visit. Some remnants and old cabins remain.

While you can drive close with a 4-wheel drive vehicle, we opted to hike from the Castle Rock Trail to Bluff Lake. The hike is moderate to difficult, so I'd recommend bringing hiking sticks, snacks, and plenty of water. Depending on your pace, the roundtrip takes about 2 to 4 hours.

Beautiful lake and trail around the lake. About a 30-minute drive from Big Bear Lake, the road is bumpy at times with narrow roads. There is no restroom on site.

Absolutely stunning and peaceful place to cam or hike ! far away from all the crowds of the big bear lake, either a 30 min drive or approx 1 hour hike to get there.

A beautiful place for a flat stroll through the trees. The first gate off of the main road is closed at this time of the season. We parked just outside and walked about 0.5 mile through the tall trees to get to the Bluff Lake Reserve sign. The single track trail to the right of the sign led through a wide open meadow with the lake on the left side.

I'm so blessed to live near such a beautiful place, just a short drive from the lake and my neighborhood on Mill Creek road.
An easy hike on mostly level ground is this paradise in the forest. Nature at its finest, wild flowers some rare and unique to this area only.

Lake was big and frozen over in November morning. Rangers are in the area. Dog friendly.

Absolutely beautiful. Easy hike and the dirt road is in great consition. We were the only ones there on a Wednesday afternoon.
