My boyfriend and I hiked this trail in Early March of 22. We parked across the road from the trailhead and headed down the dirt road. We had a total of 2 4wd vehicles pass us the entire trek in/out of the trail while on the road. Not a big deal at all and all parties were courteous. Since we only had two days total in the park we decided to do this trail instead of the slot canyon trail. We were hopeful of some fun slot canyons without others around and that's exactly what we got. I can't compare it to the better known slot canyon trail but I do know this one was very fun. We got a little off trail a few times trying to find out way out of the slot canyon and back to the original trail but we made it pretty easily!

This was a great hike. It was roughly 7.5 miles for us. There is a bit of rock scrambling, but we made the loop and it was an awesome hike. We went on a cooler day, which probably made it a little easier than if you were in peak heat times. The slot narrows in pretty narrow and the walls can be quite high, but for me that was one of the best parts of the hike. It was a family friendly hike for us, but might not be for all. If your kiddos are willing to put in the work though, they will love it.

You can do the Palm Wash loop from this trailhead. Parking at the trail head is limited off of S22 but there is additional parking at the little used Calcite Mine Overlook about 0.1 mi. West of the trail head. The whole loop is about a 4 hour leisurely hike. . Bring plenty of water and hiking supplies. Starting out, the trail has the charm of a construction site but soon it gives very nice views and lots of interesting geological formations. Best hiked on weekdays we only saw a couple off-road vehicles in 4 hours. There are no services or water but a couple of information kiosks along the way. Oh yeah, there are no palms in palm wash BTW ?.

A really fun hike and the reward of a great view across the Borrego valley and the Salton sea. We did it just before sunset and the light was beautiful. There’s a little too much car traffic but everyone was respectful.

We had a great time here with the San Diego Jeep Club. There are plenty of easy trails in the area but be cautious on some of the obstacles not on the main path. We had a Jeep flip on its roof while attempting to climb rollover hill.

Don’t worry about finding a spot. Most of the way is all free and sandy or rocky/ sandy. Beautiful and lots of peace. There’s room for everyone w out even seeing the next car. There’s off road spots and quick and smooth pull in spots. About and hour from a gas station or so. You’ll make it w a bit more than a quarter tank don’t worry. Sunset is Divine. At the top of a canyon wash. High up. Panoramic views. No lights. Raw, beautiful, gods lands. Enjoy.

A great place to go Wheelin, see spectacular views of the Borrego Bad Lands and Salton Sea and the calcite mines which played an important part in World War 2 bomber bomb sites. Experienced off road driving skills needed and a high clearance vehicle. Located in the Eastern part of the Anza Borrego Desert State Park.
