Multiple trails in this substantial open space area, including a segment of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. Expansive views of the Bay and rolling foothills. There is a trailhead for Five Canyons, or you can park at Don Castro Regional Recreation Area and access the space from there to make your walk a little longer and more varied scenery-wise. Great place for hiking in the cool season!

Pretty rolling hills, and dog friendly. However, no bathrooms

I hiked the Shady Canyon Trail loop. It's about 2.8 miles that includes spectacular views from the top of the ridge line and more shaded views along the creek. I started at the fire trail at the top of Boulder Creek Rd., and came out near the Five Canyons Rec Center, then returned to my car along the streets. A fun day hike for a bit over an hour.

This is hilly area and as you climb up the trail the view is better and better. At the top there is a nice bench where you can rest, eat a sandwich and admire the area towards the West. When the weather is clear you can see San Francisco. For a longer trail of about 6 miles you can park in Don Castro park (free on weekdays) and navigate your way based on the EBMUD supplied maps or your own.

Beautiful views, very hilly. Some forests, some streams, some medows. Some shady paths. Not highly trafficked, and most paths are wide enough for social distancing.
No issues for folks scared of heights (no cliffs edges).
Some phone reception throughout.

Dirt road, off leash, some cows, not much traffic. Would come again.

Great views from above. Sadly, you can tell the local neighbors would prefer the public park became their own private one...

Inclines make this not the best for bicycles, but still very nice trails and excellent views at the top of the hill
