Games of Berkeley

This is our fun little stop in Berkeley. There are plenty of board games, miniatures and TTRPG paraphernalia. Three private gaming rooms are available in the back and are decorated in the sci-fi and fantasy themes. There are also vending machines offering snacks and beverages. The staff is friendly and always made us feel welcomed. We look forward to visiting again and again.

This store is really big and special because it has LOTS of cool stuff, all in one place. Role playing games & accessories, party games, board games, table puzzles, puzzle toys, stuffed animals, kite accessories, throwing disks, etc, etc. There are tables and rooms in the back for gaming. There is a lot of light and overall, the store is very attractive and well organized. Why three stars? Well, the staff is usually pretty upright about rules, and although I go in happy, I always leave deflated. And this is coming from a person who is happy to acquiesce when someone tells me I'm breaking a rule. The tone in the store is definitely "library": don't throw (just to the person right next to me), don't use (who doesn't want to try out a stage knife with a disappearing blade?), don't touch. At times, wear a mask. The vibe is weird when someone tells you you're out of line. I immediately change my behavior and smile to show no hard feelings, but the worker doesn't smile back. You're watched until you leave. I feel nervous and uncomfortable. But why? Obviously, if I break it, I'll buy it... But I've never broken anything. It's a bummer because this place seems so fun, and I really want to support stores like this. I could compare it to Mr. Mopps toy store: special products, great variety, small business, local. But they are super welcoming there, in comparison to Games of Berkeley, and my experience is overall more enjoyable.

Giant gamer, super nerd. Love puzzles. LOVE board games. Was visiting on my way home, because I'd been tasked with buying some games for the family this year. I walked in, very quiet environment. I noticed an older gentleman, and a few other folks around the area. After a few minutes, I had the feeling was watching me. I looked up, saw the gentleman from earlier. Thought nothing of it, started walking to the next aisle. I watched him, out of the corner of my eye, take a huge step into the next aisle and continue taking glances at me. Idk if it's because I'm black, or have dreads, or because I'm wearing street gear or whatever. That was the singular most bizarre and uncomfortable experience I've ever had in a gaming store. I don't know what you hoped to gain, but I guess you win. I won't come back to your store.

Know anyone else with delta green? Neither do I. The staff are the definition of helpful and professional

I have been to games of Berkeley multiple times, although not often enough since it’s a bit of a drive. If you’re looking for games, they have a huge selection of board games. So much so that I’ve on multiple occasions asked for staff feedback and picked games based on their recommendation. They have always been friendly and thoughtful, and our family has enjoyed their recommendations! I’ve never bought anything else at GoB, but they have puzzles, dice, Pokémon, a few crafty things, stuffed animals, role playing games, cards, gaming space…. And I could go on. Highly recommend visiting, even if it’s out of your way or you don’t live in the area!

I wish to share my concerns regarding the environment at Games of Berkeley, particularly the recent experience my young son and I had during our visit. As a therapist focused on healthy family dynamics, I believe it is crucial for businesses, especially those frequented by children, to foster a welcoming and age-appropriate atmosphere. During our visit, we were served by a staff member whose presentation and demeanor were not conducive to the family-friendly environment I expected. I strongly believe that exposure to alternative lifestyles, such as gender non-conformity, should be reserved for a more mature audience. Children, especially those as young as mine, are impressionable and can be confused by experiences that diverge significantly from their everyday encounters. I recommend that management at Games of Berkeley consider implementing policies that ensure employees who interact with young patrons embody a standard that aligns with the expectations of families visiting the store. While inclusivity is essential, it must be balanced with the need for an environment where children can feel safe and comfortable. By doing so, the store can maintain its reputation as a family-oriented establishment that prioritizes the well-being and healthy development of its younger clientele. Ideally, we don't want our children to be exposed to alternative lifestyles until a much later age. Thanks

Really neat store full of different games and toys. Very well organized and labeled. Staff is extremely helpful. Will gave us some great recommendations on games and they were familiar with a lot of their products. The counter where the trading cards are was very attentive and helpful with questions about the different games they sell. They mentioned free nights where you can come learn the games with the community and it's probably the most welcoming game store I've ever been to. Very progressive staff and LGBTQ+ friendly, as well. Can't wait to go back!
