My first stay at the Manning was in 1972 on my honeymoon. I have always loved the historic character of the hotel, but in truth until a few years ago it was a bit shabby because the costs of keeping up such a magnificent building in a small town were too high for any one owner. Now the hotel is community owned and with dollars from the investors and grants and charitable contributions, the restoration has been very well done. I always like staying in the historic hotel itself, but some go for the other accommodations. The rooms in the hotel have modern bathrooms, and a great individually controlled climate system, and yet the room decor looks like the era in which the hotel was built. I was fooled by the wallpaper, which matches the era and yet is new. I highly recommend staying at this charming hotel.

I've stayed several nights in the more modern part of the hotel following late nights at work in town. The rooms were all comfortable and clean. The historic hotel is beautifully done and has all the charm of the day it was built. Bravo Keosauqua for giving us this gem!!

What a lovely place. My understanding is that the community came together to remodel this hotel. Part of the hotel is very very very old. They also have a newer addition. Rooms are nice. The prices fair and the view spectacular. The hotel sits alongside of the Des Moines river. It was a lovely way to end the day by sitting out on our little patio, relaxing and just watching the water in the view.I will revisit this place many times in my mind in the future.

The Hotel Manning is the heart of Keosauqua. Whether you go for dinner on Thursday or a weekend getaway, you are sure to see people you know in the the dining room, the Sandbar, or on the patio in back. Terrific live music by talented folks with Keosauqua connections. Loved my stay in the Bates Manning room - newly remodeled with comfortable bed and big bathroom.

At this current moment, I am giving this Motel a one star for service, as I have been on the road for for the last couple of days add have been seeking a quiet, clean, safe, country hotel to stay for the night, shower, relax, and take in the nostalgia. I was after normal office hours when I first started calling, so after calling four times, with no answer. Their voicemail was full, but their website said that they had rooms available. I was hoping someone would call me back, during my 2-hour trip to the hotel (as I purposely passed up multiple other lodgings). Neither Google nor their website said anything about not taking calls after a certain time. When I arrived, the parking lot was quite empty, but it listed the office hours on the door, and gave the same phone number, as on google, for after hours. So I got back in my truck, and called again, and again, no answer. However this time, the voice mailbox was not full, and I was able to leave a message. This is some place I would have loved to bring my family, but how can I even test it out, or give a good review, if I can't even get service, at a regular Motel hours. What about us weary travelers, that work day in and day out, and need a quaint beautiful place to stay for the night, instead of these meth filled standard, brand name motel rooms. It would have been nice being able to check this place out. I don't know when I'm going to be around here again. I am quite upset with this failed attempt at finding a good place to stay. I am now going to find some place to park and sleep in my truck, to continue work in the morning.

Super cool historic hotel in Keosaqua, Iowa. The floors creak and a marble will roll forever. It's perfect!
Our room, the John F. Lacey overlooked the Des Moines river and we had access to the second floor veranda, which was awesome to sit out in at night and first thing in the morning!
The staff person, Joanie, was pleasant and easy to work with when we decided to upgrade our room to the Lacey room.
Overall a good experience!

It is so nice to have such a wonderful facility to recommend when relatives and friends visit from out of town. We enjoy the meals and entertainment when offered, A great asset for Keosauqua!

If you want to step back in time, and stay in a historic hotels, this is a good option for you. It’s clear that the owners take pride in their property. It’s a clean quiet place with lots of character in the original hotel building. I stayed in a River View room, and will certainly do it again when in the area. You can walk to an excellent breakfast at Great Day Cafe.
