It was a great activity with so much history to learn. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to anyone in the area. The gift shop is cute, you can grab a drink there and a snack before getting on a boat. Once you arrive at the dock, you can meet Moe, such a friendly mule, and the crew. The whole trip was great and educational.

We had a wonderful time on our tour. Our hosts were very knowledgable on both the history of the boats on the canal as well as those who cared for the mules and the part they played in the voyages. Price for the tour was very reasonable as well, less than $40.00 for the two of us and it takes approx an hour to go the one mile and back. Remember this boat is being pulled by a mule so it’s a nice slow and relaxing ride. I highly recommend it especially late summer early fall when the daytime heat isnt as extreme as there is no air conditioning in existence in the 1800’s. ?

The staff were amazing. So knowledgeable and very professional. Young and old (young at heart) loved Moe. What an incredible experience to travel back in time. We had a beautiful day with a breeze and some sun!

We loved taking this tour! Our group consisted of 2 seniors and 4 kids (14, 11, 7, and 6). We learned so much about the building of the canal from the captain and also really enjoyed hearing the mule-skinner tell us about his experience. Such a fascinating piece of Chicago area history. Well Done!

The boat tour and trip to the visitor's center is a lot of fun. The center has a gift shop and food as well as nice facilities and a place to chill out for a bit. The canal boat is in a lovely park with historical markers. Learning about the history of our country while being on a boat pulled by a mule is a unique and fun experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed this informative boat ride on the I & M Canal. Even though the boat ride itself was short, the boat captain gave a captivating narration that was PACKED with an incredible amount of history…honestly, he kept our attention the entire time. What a rich history we have in our own backyard!
