Learn to Hunt NYC is the place to go if you are looking to be introduced to hunting in the New York/New Jersey Area. Fisher was an amazing guide and teacher. We started off the day at the range going over the basics of firearm safety and practice shooting which allowed me to feel comfortable with the shotgun.

After the range, we took a walk in the local woods where Fisher showed me how to look for game trails, deer tracks, and other signs that deer are around the area.

After a quick lunch we headed to our zone to hunt in. We set up shop and I able to take home a nice sized deer! Fisher was kind enough to ask me how involved I would like to be in cleaning. After cleaning up I followed him to the local deer butcher where I was able to pick up my meat two days later.

*FYI the butcher can make specialty sausage and deer pork roll (which I missed out on)

I highly recommend giving Learn to Hunt NYC a call for your first time. Fisher was patient with me throughout the day and is extremely friendly and knowledgably about hunting and foraging.

I booked a foraging trip in late July with two friends, thinking it was a cool experience that we have never done before. And we had a blast! Fisher is very knowledgeable about all things outdoors. He gave us great explanations of different mushroom species, how they grow, and how to tell certain ones a part. Fisher was able to answer all our questions we had during the tour. He knew exactly where to go to find specific mushrooms- and we definitely found them immediately!

With his keen senses, he spotted an edible mushroom on the side of a log like 50 meters off trail and some wild turkeys off in the bushes- we would have never spotted them!

The three of us had so much fun on the trip, we were explaining everything we learned on the tour to our friends and families right after. I definitely will have to make another trip to the NYC area to forage more mushrooms and berries.

Wow, what an experience!! I lucked out with finding Fisher to help guide me on my first ever hunt. He's a man in demand so I had to move my schedule around to hunt with him and I'm glad I did.

Fisher and I met at one of his locations that he has hunted at many times before. One thing I'm learning is that you want a guide that is a great teacher and as well has done the research to find the spots that will help increase the opportunity of harvesting an animal. Soon after we walked into the forest and after a number of turkey calls, we heard gobbles.

The experience calling, moving, setting up, direction on what to anticipate were all of the reasons why I wanted to get an experienced guide to teach me. Fisher showed his process and that led to a turkey walking into range for my first successful hunt. We bagged a bird in under 2.5 hours.

I highly recommend Fisher and plan to seek his services for future hunts!

For my birthday my wife booked a half-day foraging hike with Fisher and I could not have been happier with the experience.

I've long had an interest in mycology, and mushrooms are a favorite food by far. I've never had the time to dig into the books and was always apprehensive to go at it alone (as you should be because identifying fungus and wild edible plants takes a keen eye, good committed knowledge, and old fashioned experience).

Fisher had all of the required qualities and then some. He was a great guide and highly knowledgable and was incredibly patient and kind in explaining things.

Our hike resulted in finding 7 or so species of wild edible mushrooms which by Fisher's account was definitely a bit of luck and not a common experience. Altogether we probably came across over 25 species in total and learned a lot! It was amazing to walk away with so many wild mushrooms to try at home safely thanks to his expertise.

As I said, you may not want to expect this much because mushroom foraging is also dependent on location, timing, rain, and a variety of other variables and we definitely lucked out a little. Fisher has his own well scouted spots and he went through a lot of effort to select one that would be prime for hunting and he chose wisely. He definitely wants you to walk away happy and does the legwork to do his best to insure it.

I'd highly recommend booking with Fisher for anyone who wants a great starting point for mushroom foraging/hunting. It was a memorable experience and Fisher is a class act. You won't be sorry!

Best weekend of my life. Fisher goes above and beyond. Incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and nice guy. Great teacher. Can't think of a better experience to have as a first-time hunter than to be with Fisher. I learned so much more than I expected - hunting, foraging, tracking, deer behavior during hunting/mating season, and more. Even when times get rough, Fisher maintains such a genuine positive attitude and does everything in his power to create a good experience for you. I will most definitely be coming back.

Fisher has been a true outdoorsman his ENTIRE life since childhood back in Tennessee, where the outdoors is part the culture and a way of life.

Fisher will impart as much of his lifetime of experience and knowledge as he can in the time you have with him, not a single moment is wasted. Even when we went to grab lunch in between my morning lesson and my afternoon hunt the learning never stopped. During lunch Fisher was constantly monitoring the weather, specifically wind conditions for the multiple potential hunting sites that he could take me and checking the cameras he had set up in the field searching for latest game activity, all the while explaining what conditions he was searching for and why.

The service that you receive on the day(s) of your hunt or lesson, is only the tip of the iceberg of how much time, effort, care, excessive amounts of planning and backup planning that is put into your experience, leading up to the day of your hunt or lesson.

This level of care, attention, planning and preparations in the field is what made the first hunt of my life, a successful one!
I harvested a doe and this morning I picked up my venison from the wild game butcher that Fisher recommended.

I knew that I would learn how to hunt during my Apprentice Hunt, what I didn’t expect was to learn so much more about nature in general : trees, plants, bugs, topography, and ecosystems
AND mushrooms! during my morning lesson, we happened upon a batch of puffball mushrooms that we harvested - it has a natural earthy and nutty flavor, you cook it up just like tofu, it takes on whatever flavor you add to the pan.

Safety is the first and foremost concern of Learn to Hunt NYC.
Absolutely no chances are taken with your safety.
This in and of itself is invaluable.

I highly recommend that you book yourself an Apprentice Hunt.

I have been on a few hunts with Fisher and recently was thrilled to get my first deer! Fisher is a true woodsman and a trip - from reading the forest, types of trees and edible plants, and, yes, also how to hunt and harvest a deer. I would also add that, being a little afraid of heights, Fisher goes above and beyond to make you feel as safe as possible in the tree stand.

I cannot recommend him highly enough and cannot wait to go hunting with him again next year! Hopefully also some mushroom foraging.
