Fe and Chris are just downright awesome. We stayed for two night in the caboose and it was a great stay. Taking into the age and historical nature of the property it was downright fantastic.

The caboose is big enough to move around and have some alone time if wanted, the nook up top is not for everyone but is a nice little hangout and work area. The bed is comfy as most hotel beds are and the private bathroom and kitchen is just a great bonus.

We got a personal tour of the entire house as we were the only guests in-house while we stayed (off-season) it did not disappoint. The sheer amount of history in this house is just mind boggling not to mention the stories of the ghosts themselves. The antiques are all awesome and have their own story as well. Let's just say if you are not already interested just go and stay and you will be glad you did!

The river and bridge right across from the front yard is an amazing view and I could even see some bird watching happening in the area if that's your thing. There is a gas station about 7 minutes away that can provide for anything else you might need during your stay if Chris and Fe don't happen to have it.

All in all, go visit, you won't regret it!

PS. Dogs, they have a few and if you're lucky you'll get to see the big ol' cuddle bug that is Phoenix and his siblings!

We had four college age family members come from Texas to spend their spring break with us. To give them something fun to do that they had not done here in Iowa during their past stays, we decided to take them to spend a night at the Mason House Inn, and try out the ghost hunting equipment that my husband and I have from earlier days of dabbling into ghost hunting. The owners had some vacancies that week and we ended up being the only two rooms occupied that night…except for the ghostly occupants!  It was so much fun, and our kids had a blast.

The owners were wonderful hosts and, because there were no other “human” guests staying there, they let us use our equipment in any rooms we wanted to check out for activity.

In the morning, we were served a very delicious breakfast, including some gluten free items that our niece could enjoy.  It was truly a great evening, with ghostly stories the kids took back with them and will be fun memories we all will have for years to come.

My daughter took me on an overnight stay in the Caboose. Everything was clean and comfortable. I was amazed. Chris is everything you could ask for in a host. Very knowledgeable about not only the Inn, but about the history of the town and the businesses and local attractions. Highly recommend a visit!

I had an absolutely wonderful time staying this weekend. This place oozes history, authenticity and charm with a few exciting and hair raising experiences with the local spirits. I slept well in Room #2 and left well fed. The commradery with the other guests made you feel like family with lots of laughs and good energy. Thanks again to the new owners Fe and Chris for the great memories and great conversation during my weekend-get- away. I can't wait to return.
