Awesome place to visit. We had a great time. The museum and tours are free. Yes that’s right. FREE! It is a great place to learn how dams and locks work. we visited on a Saturday, and the tours were offered at 10 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM. Tours are dependent upon the weather. If there’s a threat of thunderstorms or heavy rain, you don’t get to go on top of the dam. So if you want to take a tour, make sure to try to check the weather before you go.

Very interesting place to learn about locks and dams on the Mississippi. The guides are very knowledgeable and best of all, it's free.

Really cool and informative tour of the lock. You are able to go all the way out to the middle and look out over the Mississippi. The museum itself is also very neat and interactive, great for families with children.

Nice free small museum. Unfortunately a lot of the interactive displays were broken. The tour was only three times a day so plan accordingly. Hopefully the displays will be fixed in the future. It would have been nice to have the interactive pilot house working.

Very interesting displays explaining how rivers are formed and about how the lock system works on the Mississippi. We also went on an informative half-hour tour giving is a close up look of the locks from above. Free entrance to the museum & for the tour!

I loved it. We got to watch a barge get lifted while going up river. My advice is dont take kids up there younger than 6. The tour is cool, but if you're a parent of a kid who has to explore everything and attempt to climb railings it's not a place for them.

A really interesting side trip. It offers an easy to understand look (good for all ages) at the great river, its uses and conservation issues. ALSO plan to tour the Lock and Dam, which is fascinating; you can watch the locks fill and empty, raising or lowering boats and barges. Cool!
