Not sure why this course is getting so much hate. We played twilight through 12 for $23. Dude at the counter was nice. Greens were well kept and all but the 11th fairway was perfectly fine. Sandpits are just holes and look like they hold water though. For the price, perfectly acceptable.

Sit back and let me tell you of the time I played Olde Liberty.

I arrived at the course for an early tee time. The parking lot was underwhelming—faded lines, crumbling asphalt, and piles of upturned earth and mulch lying about. Imagine if someone tried to recreate the ambiance of a gas station in eastern New Jersey. Clearly a prelude to what awaited. The pro shop, a dimly lit former construction trailer probably installed in 2005 to be used temporarily, was lacking all but the most basic of necessities. I could overlook it all if it were not for the rest of the experience.

The staff member—who’s name I do not remember—greeted me with the enthusiasm of someone not wanting to see anyone so lowly as to be from the public. He reminded me that my tee time was 7:30, and it was 7:32. An elderly man behind me sneered and chuckled, “you missed your tee time. Might as well not even come out here.” Wonderful. But it only gets so much worse from here.

They layout itself would be quite the challenge, if you had time to enjoy it. Let me be clear: Olde Liberty is not a golf course. It's a collection of grassy disappointments arranged in a way that vaguely mimics a better course. The fairways are inconsistent. The bunkers are laughable—like someone tried to dig a sandbox with a soup spoon and gave up halfway through. A mix of clay and mud, depending on the hour of the day, and overhanging sod that would trap you and your ball like a Sarlac pit.

But the greens... God, the greens.

Let me be clear: The greens are a tragedy. Uneven, patchy, and insultingly slow. Balls don’t roll—they shudder. Putt on the high side and you’ll launch into orbit. Stay low and your ball gets swallowed by one of the many bald, cratered patches. I watched a man playing ahead of me putt 12 feet past the hole and then pick up his ball, not in frustration—but in resignation. That's what Olde Liberty does to you. It breaks your spirit and doesn’t even bother to thank you for the business.

But what truly set this experience ablaze like the dumpster fire that it was… was the members.

A cluster of Crypt Keepers in cargo shorts and Titleist caps formed a human blockade at nearly every cart path. They loiter. They talk. They make no attempt to let faster groups play through. They behave as though the course is their personal backyard, and you, an uninvited trespasser. At one point, a group of seven stood at the white tee box of the 2nd hole, using it as a chipping green, laughing like they'd never experienced consequence at this place before teeing from the golds at ten past eight.

I politely inquired about playing through. One of them turned, blinked, and scoffed at me. He said I should respect the members of the club more instead of trying to cut in line. He then returned to destroying a tee box for his own amusement. I could almost hear him demanding an underpaid staffer to fix the damage he caused in front of him.

Later I watched as three “gentlemen” spent nearly 15 minutes looking for a ball to the right side of number 8. Once all three were out of sight in the tree line, I teed off. I tried to hit my second shot, only to have a man stumble out of someone’s backyard and berate me. I inquired if he had found his ball. I could see by the look on his sun scorched half drunken face that he had not. He glanced back and saw another two carts waiting. He graciously “allowed” me to play through and went back into someone’s lawn.

By the 12th hole, I no longer cared about score or swing mechanics. I simply wanted escape. I finished the round out of spite. I left in silence. No scorecard. No Gatorade. Just a slow walk back to my car, wondering how something so fundamentally simple could be so unapologetically ruined.

This isn’t golf. This is purgatory with 18 flagsticks.

Avoid it.

Nice place I did not play the course. I used the driving range then the chipping area and ended with the very nice and big putting practice green. From what I saw of the course it looked nice. Why I gave it 4 stars is because they don't offer much in the clubhouse.

One of the worst courses I have ever played. The tee boxes, especially the ladies tee, was not kept or manicured. It was so hard on some the tee would not go in the ground. The fairways are like the rough at most courses. And they’re rough… forget about finding your ball there. The greens are just okay. The price to play here is no where near worth it. We won’t be back.
