It’s disappointing and heartbreaking to see the news about two elderly women arrested and charged for feeding stray cats and doing a good deed out of the goodness of their heart. It’s a shame that some police all across this country will look at you through the eyes of the law rather than treat you as a human being with respect and dignity. I’ve seen it myself too many times, a few bad apples giving all police a bad rap. I’ve experienced it myself, as an active member in my community working on numerous committees and task force projects for anti crime or drugs and you can meet one bad cop that will try to throw you in jail for a simple quota. It’s a shame. And I truly hope this was a major lesson for your entire department to treat people like people. We all know the motto “to protect and serve” was nothing but a fake line to instill false trust but please try to do better from now on and have some decency. Now the taxpayers have to foot the bill for your gross overreach and pride. When that money, apparently “less than $50k” could’ve been used to fix roads or other things in need in Alabama I’m sure. However knowing these women have kind hearts I’m sure they will donate most if not all of it to the causes they believe in. Cause that’s what good ppl do. And you don’t throw them in JAIL!!!!!

City full of tough guys that arrest super old ladies. How disgraceful. I generally support LEO, these guys are everything that’s wrong with the profession and the reason why LEO get a bad wrap. Got here to visit, resident showed me the video while checking in to hotel, we got out of dodge. No chance I would spend my money in this town.

As someone who has lived in Wetumpka for 6 years the cops will not find any way to arrest you just because of something that happened a year ago. If you ever visit Wetumpka it is a beautiful city with a good school system. The only crater in Alabama. Barely any crimes caused by LOCALS although people are coming from Montgomery and stealing guns from cars in Emerald Mountain (which is closet to Montgomery to my knowledge) Overall amazing city.

Actually, a beautiful little town with lots of history and a pretty fun casino. But, I won’t be back until something is done to rectify the PR nightmare that is two elderly women being arrested on public land for trapping/spaying/finding homes for cats in need. IMO, the City of Wetumpka should bow down and kiss these sweet Southern ladies feet for the important and kind deeds they were doing. Even more ironic… it wasn’t that long ago that the Napiers helped revitalize parts of the city. Seems the city is pretty accepting of good deeds when they get you on tv. Maybe not so much from little ladies who are doing good behind the scenes for animals. Shame on you Wetumpka!

So I have respect for police that show they are respectable. To put hands on a elderly woman and then threaten her that “things are going to get ugly”… really?! Poor excuse for a man. And shameful for you as a city to perpetrate this behavior against these women performing their civic duties to help solve an apparent issue with feral cats. Shame on you!

As a person that wish they had the time and resources to help strays; as those two elderly women do/did. It breaks my heart to see 2 caring women get prosecuted for this. Work on improving your infrastructure, instead of wasting money on arresting people that are doing what the city should be doing. The 1 star is only because those two kind women are there, and because I can't post with 0 stars.

There's obviously serious systemic issues with this city/town from the elected officials including mayor, prosecutor, and judge and down to law enforcement. There should be a criminal probe into the waste of tax dollars spent to bully senior citizens and carry out bullying campaigns. I thought for sure the judge would see how ridiculous the charges were against both those ladies and do what he swore an oath to do but wasn't too surprised that didn't happen. Time to clean house.
