This is an unusual rock formation located in a forest on top of Pyramid Mountain. Easily accessible from New York City by car, it is worth to hike in this park.

I've been here a 4+ times now and it never gets old. The most interesting thing happened when I went last October though. I was sitting next to one of the smaller boulders and saw something shiny in the lee of it. I reached under and found some rocks that didn't seem like they should be there. I took them with me and upon later investigation I found one of them was probably pyrite and the other bornite. They were so out of place I feel like another hiker must have brought them into the park and put them there but I have no idea for what reason they would have done so.

Tripod Rock is definitely worth the hike up Pyramid Mountain to see. Very unique example of glacial progress in the area. For those who are less hiking-inclined or those with less time, it may be a good idea to take the trails from the north rather than the south side of the park.

The main attraction in this gorgeous Morris County Park at Pyramid Mountain is Tripod Rock, a massive glacial erratic balanced on three smaller stones. In addition, Bear Rock is the size of a small house.
Trails wander around and through imposing rock cliffs and ice age glacial debris. Best hiking area in NJ.

Interesting place for sure, especially if you read the history of this rock. Worth visiting to feel the power of nature and witness the gorgeous rock that has seen it all. Notice the smaller rocks of the same origin and placement close to the Tripod rock. Might wanna visit on the day of summer solstice...somehow those rocks got in that position specifically in that spot..

I heard it was placed there by Egyptian pyramid builders. They know how to work with rocks and stuff like that. I lifted it with my buddy last week we just used a few U-haul straps and some back lube.
